Why? finding truth when nothing else makes sense

I wrote these studies for friends who went through a house fire.  Sometimes it's hard to make sense of life.  Thankfully, the Bible gives us truth when nothing else makes sense.

Jonah Bible Study

After taking a restful summer sabbatical from writing, I want to post a Jonah study that I had first written for a Sunday School unit. I decided to just post it the way it was written. Having said that, please know that this study is different than any of the other studies that I have posted. It is very brief. Each day's study would only take a child about 10 minutes to complete.

Since our Creator made us all so uniquely different and yet created us to be made in His image, I wanted to include this study on the blog site for anyone who would prefer a shorter study. My hope and prayer is that it will be a blessing.

Be Their Example...a 10 day Bible study for 9-12 year olds on 1 Timothy 4:12

This is a Bible study for my cyperspace friend, Otter. I don't know all of the trials that Otter endures but I hope this Bible study brings hope and encouragement.

Dear Otter,
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12)". Be bold Otter! You are God's workmanship and He wants to use you as His example to all who believe. My prayer is that this Bible study will help you in your walk with Christ. I look forward to the day when I can meet you face to face. Until then, know that I've prayed much for you!
love,
Heidi

Understanding Words of Insight

I am falling more and more in love with my LORD's love letter to me written within the pages of my Bible. I love reading. I love studying. I love learning more and more about Him and His plan for my life.

Lately, I've been praying that my own children would develop a love of God's Word. I pray that I am not only providing them with Bible studies; but, that I am providing them with a good example~a legacy of a love of God and His Word.

While working on a few Children's Church lessons for our little congregation, the LORD led me to put together a Bible dictionary for my kids and others to use as a tool in their own study of God's Word. I wanted this to be something that is their own work. They will have to put some time and energy into completing their Bible dictionary but when they are finished I hope that God will use this study to cause them to fall farther in love with their LORD and His Word~just as I have.

Slow to Anger...Bible study for 9-12 year olds

The thoughts for this study began flooding my mind during church one cold winter morning. My friend, Jerry, spoke up during prayer request time and said, "Please pray for me. I struggle with anger and I need to get it under control." His prayer request went beyond the safe, "please pray for my grandmother" type of prayer request. Jerry's prayer request was one that was vulnerable. One that reveals a very deep, very personal need.

As I thought over his comments, I realized how many times I do not control my anger. However, I love to portray to the world that I have everything under control~my anger included! I allowed my pride to hold on to my anger issues.

The LORD is merciful and gracious and allowed me to have to chew on some of Solomon's wisdom in the book of Proverbs. While I learned much, writing this particular Bible study was difficult for me because I was faced with my own ugliness. Not only do I struggle with anger at times. I also struggle with pride. Ouch!

I am thankful to Jerry for reminding me to be vulnerable and for reminding me to be willing to allow God to change me from the inside out. Thanks!!

This is a 10 day Bible study.

Feasting On Fruit...Bible study for 9-12 year olds

This is the very first Bible study that God had me write. I knew He had impressed upon my heart to write for children but I thought He wanted me to write only Sunday School material. When I mentioned this idea to my Sunday School class and asked them to pray with me and for me, they were estatic! However, they didn't want to wait until we finished up the curriculum that we were already using. I saw the hunger in their eyes and prayed that God would give me something to satisfy them while they waited. I gave them Feasting on Fruit thinking that it would satisfy for 5 weeks. Most of them finished it much sooner and they loved it!

This study is long. It was written to be done 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Please know that the entire document is 37 pages before you click print.

My Body His Temple...Bible study for 9-12 year olds

This study is another direct answer to prayer. I asked God to show me how to teach my children about purity. I wanted more than the pat answers on sexual purity. I wanted to teach them that purity starts in our own hearts; and, what we let our eyes see, our ears hear and where we let our feet take us directly affects the purity of our heart.

Of all the studies to date, this is by far my absolute favorite! I love the idea that my heart is His dwelling place! After working through this thought, I had to change areas in my own life to protect my heart. I hope I am setting a good example for my kids in this. My two oldest have worked through this study and my 9 year old says it was her favorite. I hope it was written deep on the tablet of her human heart!!

Now Love One Another...Bible Study for 9-12 year olds

The LORD gave me this Bible study as a direct answer to my cry for "HELP!" Teaching my kids to love one another is not something that comes easily for me or for them. I think I had even hoped that they would be divinely cured by this study and I would never again have to be the referee between them. Though that hasn't happened, I do hope that they learned a few things when they did this Bible study as part of their school work. And, they are definately a lot cuter when they are all getting along....
This is a 14 day Bible study.

Saved!...Bible study for 9-12 year olds

As I said before, I write with the kids at our church in mind. This study is another one that was written very specifically.

Haley is a special young lady who came to Oak Grove for only a short time. In that time, I learned to love her quiet spirit. We knew that her home situation was changing. Since that change she hasn't been back to church but I was able to send a Bible and this Bible study to her. She sent me a beautiful card in return. I don't know if Haley knows Jesus as her personal Savior. I continue to pray for her.

This can be used as a 5 day Bible study.

Why...Bible Study for 9-12 year olds

On October 30, 2008 the home of some dear friends burned. We have been privileged to stand beside them, pray with them and hope for the future with them. The two oldest daughters of that family have encouraged me and prayed often for me in this endeavor to write Bible studies. As I was with them after the fire, I was burdened to write a study that says that it is okay to ask "why". It's okay to ask the hard questions in life. It's also okay to not have answers but to know Who does.

This study is personalized to Makayli and Makenna. However, soon after I wrote it for them, I was able to give this study to another family going through another trial. While the names are personalized, the lesson is universal. God loves each of us and He has a plan...Jeremiah 29:11-13 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

This is a 7 day Bible study.

Blessed Are...Bible Study for 9-12 year olds

This Bible study was written for two very special friends. Emma and Rebecca have prayed for me, encouraged me and motivated me to write. There have been times when I have not been able to keep up with them! I wrote this one for them right before they left for vacation. I hoped it would keep them occupied during the long drive to Florida. I think they finished it long before they saw Disney!

This is a 14 day Bible study.

When I Am Afraid...Bible Study for 9-12 year olds

Several times I tried to write a Bible study on fear. Either I would have a bad case of "writer's bloc" or what was on the computer screen was so bad that I had to delete it. Because He is sovereign and in control, God patiently waited and allowed me to go through a time of intense fear. I knew He was with me while I followed an ambulance with my husband inside as a patient (not as a paramedic). I literally felt Him holding my right hand as tears coursed down my cheeks and I cried out to Him. But, it wasn't until He had me write this Bible study that I saw how He used that time to teach me to trust Him.

This is a 14 day study.
